맥화랑은 한국 동시대 미술의 다양한 흐름을 대표하는 여덟 작가와 함께 Kiaf SEOUL 2025에 참여합니다.

특히 이번 Kiaf SEOUL과 같은 기간, 뉴욕에서 열리는 The Armory Show 2025에 솔로 부스로 참여하는 이두원 작가의 회화 신작이 맥화랑 부스에서도 소개됩니다.

또한, 핵문제 · 환경 위기 · 권력 구조 등 국제사회적 이슈를 일상 풍경으로 풀어내며 부산비엔날레(2024), 국립현대미술관 '올해의 작가상'(2021), 부산시립미술관 개인전(2019), 광주비엔날레(2018) 등을 통해 예술성과 미학적 성과를 인정받은 방정아 작가를 처음 선보입니다.

이외에도 유화 물감을 실처럼 짜내는 강혜은, 연필만으로 40년간 화면을 구축해온 김은주, 기억과 시간 같은 추상적 개념을 시각적 형태로 재해석하는 박영환, ‘아저씨’ 조각으로 위로를 전하는 박진성, 매체의 실험성과 조형성이 돋보이는 유명균, 제주의 풍광을 동화처럼 재구성하는 허문희까지 각기 뚜렷한 조형 언어가 어우러져 다채로운 시각적 경험을 선사할 예정입니다.

Gallery MAC will participate in Kiaf SEOUL 2025 with eight artists who represent a wide spectrum of contemporary Korean art. Notably, new paintings by Doowon Lee—who is also presenting a solo booth at the 2025 Armory Show in New York during the same period—will be introduced at our booth. We are also pleased to debut Jung-A Bang, whose works critically interpret global issues such as nuclear tension, environmental crises, and power structures through scenes of everyday life. Her artistic and aesthetic achievements have been recognized through her selection as Artist of the Year(2021) by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and participation in the 2024 Busan Biennale. Also featured are Hyeeun Kang, who extrudes oil paint like thread; Eunju Kim, who has been constructing her images with pencil for over 40 years; Younghwan Park, who visualizes abstract notions like memory and time; Jinsung Park, known for his comforting “Ajeossi” sculptures; Myunggyun You, whose works stand out for their material experimentation and form; and Munhee Hur, who reimagines \the landscapes of Jeju Island with fairy tale–like sensitivity.

맥화랑 전속 이두원 작가, 뉴욕 The Armory Show 2025 에서 솔로 부스 선보여

지난해 부산비엔날레에 참여하며 부산현대미술관 앞마당의 카라반 설치 및 대형 페인팅 작업으로 미술계의 주목을 받았던 이두원(b.1982-) 작가가 올해 9월, Kiaf SEOUL과 동기간에 진행되는 뉴욕의 유서깊은 아트페어 The Armory Show에서 솔로 부스를 선보인다.

지난 4월, 미국 뉴욕에 위치한 ACA Galleries에서 진행된 이두원 작가의 개인전 《Doowon and the Golden Fish Submarine Arrive in New York》이 성황리에 마무리된 가운데, 전시를 주최했던 ACA Galleries는 향후 이두원 작가의 미주 및 유럽권 프로모션을 본격적으로 전개할 것을 약속했다. 그 첫 행보로 뉴욕 2025 The Armory Show 솔로 부스 참여를 확정지은 것이다.

이번 아모리쇼에서는 2m가 넘는 대형 페인팅부터 소품에 이르기까지 약 20여 점의 작품을 선보일 예정이다. 이두원 작가 특유의 노마딕 감수성과 해학적 상상력이 결합된 회화와 설치 작업은 글로벌 아트씬 속에서 더욱 주목받을 것으로 기대된다.

Artist Doowon LEE (b.1982), who garnered wide attention at last year’s Busan Biennale with his caravan installation and large-scale paintings presented in the forecourt of the Busan Museum of Contemporary Art, will unveil a solo booth at the Armory Show 2025 in New York, coinciding with Kiaf SEOUL this September.

Following the success of his solo exhibition Doowon and the Golden Fish Submarine Arrive in New York at ACA Galleries last April, the New York–based gallery has announced plans to actively promote LEE’s work across the Americas and Europe. As its first step, ACA Galleries has confirmed LEE’s participation with a dedicated solo booth at the upcoming Armory Show.

At the fair, LEE will present approximately 20 works ranging from monumental paintings over two meters in scale to smaller pieces. Infused with his distinctive nomadic sensibility and playful imagination, his paintings and installations are anticipated to draw significant attention on the global art stage.
