As Seoul comes alive with art this September, GALLERY MAC welcomes you to two presentations at Frieze Seoul 2026 and Kiaf SEOUL 2026.

At Frieze Seoul 2026, GALLERY MAC presents a solo presentation of Jungmyung Kim, a senior artist from Busan whose distinctive practice has developed within the broader trajectory of Korean Experimental Art. Centered on his Yellow Line series, created between 1999 and 2000, the presentation offers an opportunity to revisit the artist’s singular body of work and the questions that have shaped his practice over the decades.

At Kiaf SEOUL 2026, GALLERY MAC brings together works by eight contemporary artists: Hyeeun Kang, Eunju Kim, Jungmyung Kim, Hyunsoo Kim, Jinsung Park, Jeong-A Bang, Geonyul Jang, and Munhee Hur. Spanning different generations and distinct artistic languages, their works come together to reflect the breadth and diversity of GALLERY MAC’s program.

GALLERY MAC is pleased to present a solo presentation of Jungmyung Kim (b. 1945, Busan) in the Spotlight section of Frieze Seoul 2026. Since the late 1960s, Kim has developed a singular artistic practice within the broader trajectory of Korean Experimental Art. Trained as a sculptor, he has consistently moved beyond the boundaries of any single medium or genre, working across painting, sculpture, objects, and installation. Through appropriation and parody, often infused with humor and irony, Kim has persistently questioned the distinctions between art and everyday life.

The presentation centers on Kim’s Yellow Line series, created between 1999 and 2000. Taking the yellow markings found on roads—center lines, restricted zones, and other signs of regulation—as both a visual device and a conceptual motif, the series considers how systems of order, restriction, prohibition, and control are embedded in modern life. Through the recurring image of the “yellow line,” Kim draws attention to the boundaries constructed by human civilization, prompting renewed reflection on the divisions between civilization and nature, center and periphery, and the individual and institutional structures.

At Kiaf SEOUL 2026, GALLERY MAC brings together eight artists across different generations and distinct artistic languages: Hyeeun KANG, Eunju KIM, Jungmyung KIM, Hyunsoo KIM, Jinsung PARK, Jeong-A BANG, Geonyul JANG, and Munhee HUR.

Spanning painting, drawing, sculpture, object-based work, and installation, the presentation traces multiple currents within Korean contemporary art. From established and senior artists who have developed singular practices over decades to younger artists shaping new perspectives through contemporary sensibilities, the presentation brings together a layered view of Korean art today. Kiaf SEOUL 2026 takes place at COEX, Seoul, from September 2–6, 2026.

Participating Artists

Hyeeun KANG (b.1956)
Hyeeun KANG has developed a distinctive painterly language by extruding oil paint into fine, thread-like lines and layering them repeatedly across the surface. Accumulated over time, these lines create subtle shifts of depth and shadow in response to light and viewpoint, extending painting beyond the flat surface into an almost tactile, relief-like space.

Eunju KIM (b.1965)
For decades, Eunju KIM has worked with the elemental materials of pencil and paper, transforming the repeated acts of drawing, erasing, and layering into a fully realized painterly language. Her work was included in Prayer for Life: Special Exhibition of Korean Polychrome Painting at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA), Gwacheon in 2022, and has been presented at institutions including Busan Museum of Art and POSCO Art Museum. Her works are represented in institutional collections including Busan Museum of Art, Pohang Museum of Steel Art, and the MMCA Art Bank. At ART BUSAN 2026 CONNECT, KIM presented Toward Drawing: Graphite Ground, a monumental 21-meter pencil-on-paper work that expanded the cumulative force of repetition, labor, and time to an immersive scale.

Jungmyung KIM (b.1945)
Emerging from the context of Korean Experimental Art in the late 1960s and 1970s, Jungmyung KIM has spent more than half a century moving across painting, sculpture, object, and installation while continually returning to one fundamental question: “What is art?” Alongside his recent works at Kiaf SEOUL, GALLERY MAC presents a solo presentation of KIM’s Yellow Line series (1999–2000) in Spotlight at Frieze Seoul 2026, Stand S14, offering an opportunity to consider the continuity between the artist’s historical practice and his work today. Frieze’s official 2026 materials identify KIM and the Yellow Line series as part of its newly introduced Spotlight section.

Hyunsoo KIM (b.1992)
Born and raised on Jeju Island, Hyunsoo KIM draws on childhood memories of trees and forests, wind and light, reshaping them through form, color, and negative space into abstracted landscapes suspended between reality and memory. More recently, forms, colors, and tactile experiences discovered through ceramics have found their way back into her paintings, creating an ongoing exchange between art and everyday life.

Jinsung PARK (b.1982)
Jinsung PARK is known for his distinctive “Ajeossi” figures—anonymous adults characterized by round, childlike faces, deep wrinkles, stubble, and a single tear. In PARK’s work, the tear does not remain a sign of sorrow; instead, it becomes a form of cathartic release, marking a passage through suppressed emotion toward lightness, freedom, and the possibility of happiness.

Jeong-A BANG (b.1968)
Jeong-A BANG turns to ordinary, at times humorous scenes of everyday life to reveal the contradictions and tensions embedded in contemporary relationships between the individual and society, and between humans and nature. Her major presentations include the 2019 solo exhibition Highlighting Contemporary Artist I, Bang Jeong-A: Unbelievably Heavy, Awfully Keen at Busan Museum of Art, Korea Artist Prize 2021 at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA), and the Busan Biennale 2024. In 2026, she presented the monumental suspended textile paintings Oliver Stone’s Swimming (2024) and The Space Between Us (2025–26) as part of Yi Tai Sculpture & Installation Projects at Art Central Hong Kong, extending her painterly practice into spatial and installation-based forms.

Geonyul JANG (b.1992)
Geonyul JANG observes flowers, plants, trees, and landscapes encountered in everyday life, distilling their forms and colors into a visual vocabulary of points, lines, planes, and color. Working primarily on paper, he gathers, disperses, and rearranges these fragments across the picture plane, creating landscapes that move beyond direct representation and emerge where embodied encounters with nature meet personal perception.

Munhee HUR (b.1976)
Born and raised on Jeju Island, Munhee HUR brings forests and their many inhabitants—trees, grasses, cats, birds, and other small forms of life—into paintings that imagine modes of coexistence beyond a human-centered order. HUR was selected for the Ha Jungwoong Young Artists Invitation Exhibition “Light 2007” at Gwangju Museum of Art and has presented her work at public institutions including Jeju Museum of Art and Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art. Her works are held in collections including Jeju Museum of Art, Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art, the MMCA Art Bank, Kidang Art Museum, and Lee Jung-seop Art Museum.
